Match report by Nina

 

On Sunday 24th, the U13 Girls went up against Cheam Chargers. 

 

The starting five were Josie, Alara, Darcie, Sadie and Calypso. We started strongly with Sadie winning the tip off. As we were up against a weaker team we really pushed on offence. Josie scored some amazing shots from the field. It was also Calypso's first game and she did a great job on the defence as well as offence. On defence Sadie and Darcie got many steals and then scored off them.

 

In the second quarter Bella, Beth and Nina came off the bench alongside Alara and Sadie. One of the things that helped us in this game was our height advantage. Nina or Josie would make some long passes to Darcie, Sadie to Bella and they would sink them in from close to the basket. 

 

The third quarter was probably the hardest but luckily it wasn't too hard!! Full court press was introduced but fortunately we managed to break it with the help off Josie, Nina and Alara. Alara really helped with her quick passes. In this quarter we did a play we had been working on in practice called three. It worked well and Calypso managed to score off of it. 

 

The fourth and final quarter. We had been in the lead the whole time and we weren't going to give up now. No one got fouled out and we were very careful with how we played on defence. Beth was great at getting the ball in the paint and then putting it in. We won 54-11 and are ready for our next game against the Berkshire Bulldogs.
