Do not hinder Trinder: Coach Ben delivers some sage advice to the boys before the match
This week’s report comes from Joe A.
This weekend we played our first home game of the season. The team consisted of: Jack, Joe, Thomas, Ben, Sean, Yahya, Temi, Kai, Julian, Johnny, and Youssef
The opening quarter started with Oxford scoring first and getting ahead by 6 points, but later in the first half of the quarter Julian got fouled and made both of his free-throws to tighten the gap in the score. As the quarter went on we gained control with Sean getting a basket, me getting 3, Ben getting 2, Temi getting 1, and Youssef with 3 including a free throw. This gives Blackhawks the first quarter with the score ending 21-12.
The second quarter started and everyone played really well together, getting many baskets and with Sean making a free throw. The team kept up the pressure and intensity up, swinging the ball around the three point line waiting for the opportunity to drive. This caused the score to go to 46-21 by the end of the first half of the game.
In the third quarter we kept the gap between the score very large with Jack receiving multiple fast break passes from Sean and Ben getting us 2 more baskets. Temi and Kai were going strong to grab the rebounds and defend the paint stopping Oxford from getting a few points. The final score of the 3rd quarter was 60-30.
The final quarter of the game we kept up our intensity with Johnny getting a few assists to add to our lead. Ben again got 2 baskets and Sean scored 3, including dropping the first 3-pointer of the game. Yayha was setting good screens to allow his teammates to drive to the hoop, also playing good defence not allowing Oxford to get by. After a good first home game against Oxford Hoops, the final score was 77-41.
